Thank God I have not had an opportunity to use these yet, but I must explain why I bought them. A friend was coming down a frozen lake to visit me at my cabin. About half way of the 10 mile trip, he went through the ice. His machine submerged and he had a set of these Frabill Ice picks which he just by chance had purchased and had them on his possession. When he didn't show up at my cabin, I went looking for him. I found where he went through the ice, but no sign of him. I was petrified and feared the worst. I happened to look down the lake and saw a person walking across the ice. It turned out to be him. He was nearly frozen to death by that time. Bottom line, and according to his own testimony, the Frabill Ice Picks were the only thing that saved his life, allowing him to pull himself out of the hole. And he is a very big man....6'5'' and about 280 pounds.
