Pros & Cons
** 6 Year Update **
I purchased in 2014 and still have this clock and using it! The ceiling light stopped working about two years ago in 2018, I do miss that despite originally not being a big fan of it at first. It slowly dimmed out. Time for a new one, hopefully HoMedics has a newer version available!
PROS:
* I like the display having three dimmer settings as well as "off". I am light-sensitive so even the lowest setting still is too bright for me, but some may like the display being completely off as they sleep as I do. I use the ceiling projector instead, which I turn on at bed time.
* I like the different sounds, I became addicted to nature sounds years ago with earlier HoMedic clocks and now can't sleep without them. I even like the quiet campfire on this clock.
* I like the sounds being able to play continously - something HARD to find on these sound machines. The other brands that only give timed intervals before turning off are missing the very purpose of sound machines playing all night.
* I like the times the alarm are set for being displayed in tiny numbers on the alarm set indicator.
* I like when the alarm sounds it gradually gets louder and the fact that you can set how loud it gets.
* I really like the battery back-up. I was searching to see what size battery I needed only to find it comes with the standared CR2032 long life battery already installed - really convenient. But I wish the the alarm would still sound during a power outage. I don't know if I've ever seen a clock do that.
* I like being able to advance the numbers when setting the time in either direction. This really helps if you've accidently advanced past the actual time.
CONS:
* I don't like the "time set" and the projector "on" button inconveniently located on the back, bottom of the clock - awful location and so hard to get to.
* I read many reviews of how tiny the clock is, but I don't think so - it's rather tall and awkard looking with the big slanted top.
* My number one searched for feature in a nature sound clock but can't locate [reasonably priced] - no headphone jack for my pillow speaker to play the sounds.
* As everyone else says, the ceiling projector light is too bright, but it can be turned off for light-sensitive people like me. I leave it on at night while turning the display off, but the ceiling light is still bright.
* The time projector light cannot be rotated on the ceiling, it's at whatever angle your clock is sitting.
* The radio does not have presets, you have to tune a single station at a time yourself - plus there is no AM band.
* I love blue clock displays, but the light is not as blue as it appears in the photo - it's more of a gray with black numbers.
