Perfect...with a couple of mods.
First, I read several reviews prior to buying so I had a good idea of what I was going to do beforehand. I never used the supplied plastic pellets at all (still in the original bags). Instead I bought a 40lbs bag of animal pellets from my local Tractor Supply store for around $5. These pellets will break-down into sawdust when the cats pee on them. This in turn is sifted to the bottom tray...which I scoop out with a small dust pan and keep in an airtight container to empty once a week. Super easy, super clean and no bad cat pee smell. Because the top section is loosely fit into the bottom...The other thing I did was duct tape the top to the bottom. That way I can grab the top and shake it to get the sawdust to sift to the lower tray. This is also a more solid/stable litter box when it's taped together. I've got a metal kitty litter scoop on the way because trying to move the pellets around to get the sawdust down actually broke my cheap plastic one. I'm also considering removing the tray entirely and putting the whole thing in a "pan" or something with 1 inch sides...but that's just a thought. Anyway, it pays for itself in no time in kitty litter costs. We've got 2 cats and have been using this for 3 weeks and still on the original bag of $5 pellets! Update 10/10/2020: Still using the same system (works great) with one caveat...when cleaning the tray (daily), it does tend to smell like urine. So I started using Nature's Miracle deodorizer and now the system seems perfect. It doesn't take much (more like tiny granules than powder really) and smells fresh. Just sprinkle a little after cleaning and "bam!"...clean AND fresh. Love this set-up!
