Comparison with Neutrogena's facial gel cream
I wanted to compare this body lotion with Neutrogen's facial gel-cream, which per ounce is drastically more expensive, and see if this body lotion would work on the face. Here's what I found after a few weeks of testing: The facial gel-cream has no petrolatum and more dimethicone, so it feels a bit more refreshing and light to apply. However, it doesn't retain hydration as well because it's also less occlusive. The body lotion, when used on the face, definitely feels richer. The texture is still quite pleasant and it's not too heavy for my oily skin. It's a little less cosmetically elegant than the facial cream on application but it sinks in after a few minutes and doesn't look greasy or shiny. After a few hours, it definitely retains moisture better. Both products don't contain much hyalauronic acid, so I think it's the glycerin and occlusives doing the heavy lifting here. I think it's totally fine for using during the day and makes a particularly good night cream/sleeping mask. I like it more than Cerave's lotion, which has more a traditional sticky lotion texture (even if it does have more beneficial ceramides). Fun fact--this also works great on hair for taming split ends or frizz. A lot of hair treatments are glycerin, oils, and dimethicone anyway, so why not give it a try? Worst case you don't use it on your face or hair, and it still makes a great body lotion. This is probably one of my favorite Neutrogena products.
