Ok .. I could have bought a Kitchenaid for a lot more money, that's the brand all my friends who have these recommended. However, influenced by the price (12 bucks and change) and the reviews of other users, I bought this one. I'm not dissappointed at all! Works great! So far I've used it to make smoothies and puree soups. In no time at all I had a nice smooth consistency for the smoothies and the soups took only a few minutes. Cleans up much easier than my standard blender, not to mention the time saved transferring things into the blender. Also, I like that the guard portion surrounding the blade is not metal, I have a few enameled cast iron pieces of cookware that a metal guard would scratch. You don't always have to pay top dollar to get something that performs well.
