Since dogs come in such a variety of shapes and sizes, it really is tricky to get a perfect fit in all their clothing and accessories. When selecting this Blueberry holiday hooded sweater, I relied on both the Blueberry sizing chart and my own experience with fitting items on my Bichon and Maltese mix dogs. There can be a significant variance in determining length depending on where one holds the beginning and end of the tape measure. My Bichon, like many of her breed, has a long back and short legs. I have to be careful because if I go only by the back length, I wind up with clothing that is so loose around her body that it can drag on the ground. She is 15 pounds, with a 13 inch neck and an 18 inch girth and 18 inch back length, measured top of neck to tail tip. This sweater fits her very nicely but is a bit short in the back, as expected, because of her long body. It fits perfectly in the neck and chest area and does not restrict her movement in any way. It is a good size for her. My Maltese mix who barely weighs 11 pounds also has a lower neck measurement of 13 inches. Her girth is 16.5 inches and her back length is almost 15 inches. She tends to get chilly easily and loves wearing cozy clothing. This holiday sweater fits her very well and while it is slightly loose in the chest area, it gives her good warm coverage, and is the ideal size for her. The sweater is made of a soft acrylic knit which is stretchable and not too bulky. Actually one of the things that I was most concerned about when ordering this sweater was the polyester rim on the hood. It is not stretchable but the hood on the size 14 sweater has a generous circumference of 19 inches. It was easy to put over the head of both dogs. I have attached pictures showing the fit of the size 14 sweater on both of my dogs. This is a very attractive and well made sweater.
