I purchased this sharpener for our school, and I loved it from the moment I first used it. It makes a whirrr sound as it does the heavy sharpening, and then when the pencil is sharp it makes a lighter, less-engaged sound, indicating the pencil could be removed. We gave it a good work-out, often sharpening several pencils one after another, and I have been so pleased to have an indicator of the pencil being sharp so that we do not waste time and resources checking or over-sharpening our pencils. I also had grown very tired of broken pencil leads from manual sharpeners with mis-calibrated blades. So, though more expensive, this was worth the peace of mind! I have had this sharpener for about a two weeks now, and today after sharpening a few pencils I noticed that it started to seize up when a pencil would be inserted, and no longer would sharpen. It is obviously listed as "heavy duty", ready to handle the sharpening of many pencils. They promise a 100% guarantee of satisfaction; I am waiting to see what they have to say and will update my review accordingly. Update, 11/7/2017: Amazon was able to enable a return for this sharpener, but I happily found that emptying it (sometimes with a light tapping to free trapped pencil shavings which could jam the blades) would revive this little beauty. It became a more regular thing as time went on, sometimes after only a couple of pencils, but it still sharpened well and overall I was happy. A couple of days ago it started making a strange, high-pitched gears-in-trouble sound. We could still sharpen a bit, but whenever the pencil was fully lowered in for sharpening, the screeching sound would be activated and the sharpener would stop sharpening. After hoping for better for days and trying to get it to work, I decided to contact the seller. I called, my order was pulled up (from just under 6 months ago now), and I described my problem. Without hesitation, the agent offered me a full refund. I was very pleased. Now I need a new sharpener, but I know that if I order another of these, even if it breaks down the seller will have my back!
