So I have some good references to go off of
Been using the bobsweep for a couple of weeks now and here's what I think about it. This robot is replacing a neato robot that I had for about 3 years which finally died, and before that I had a roomba. So I have some good references to go off of.
First thing I'll say is that it's not nearly as "smart" as the neato robot. It's more like the roomba in that it randomly scoots around the room for a predetermined ammount of time then it returns to the charging station. The neato was much more methodical about it. However, my floors are clean. The bobsweep just takes a little longer to get it done.
If it gets stuck.. and it will. You have to clear the trouble code which resets the cleaning cycle. Not terrible, but a minor inconvenience. It's good that it's dumb because it doesn't care if you pick it up or not. It just keeps on cleaning wherever you put it down. The neato used to get lost if you moved it because it was mapping the room as it went. Oh, and it seems to be a little lower in the front than in the back which helps it to get wedged more easily under furniture and cabinet bottoms. It just depends on how high your furniture is. Every one of my robots got stuck so no real difference there.
The dust bin is way bigger on the bobsweep. This is good because on a full charge it'll run for over an hour. Never needing to stop and empty the bin. Or, if you run it frequently and floors aren't that dirty then it needs less emptying.
It's quieter than the other two robots I've had. The neato was the loudest. Then the roomba, then bobsweep. I was surprised at how not-loud it was.
The remote control is nice. If it misses a spot or you want it to clean more in a certain area you can just grab the remote and drive it over there. Also, you can keep the remote somwhere else in the room and start the cleaning cycle with a push of a button on the remote. It does work by line-of-sight but the ir must bounce around the room because I don't have to point it at it to work. I like the remote more than I thought I would.
And finally the mop. Nothing good to say about the mop. Every time I've tried to use it, it starts out good then as soon as the robot rolls over a wet area of the floor the wheels loose traction and it just spins around helplessly. Works well in the spots that it manages to mop... But that's about it. Good idea, poor execution.
The roomba and neato robots felt like they were more robust and heavier-duty. But then they also cost three times as much. The bobsweep is light for it's size.
All that being said, I'm very pleased with the bobsweep. It does its job very well and my floors stay cleaner than ever. That's about all I can ask of it. That and just don't break! I did purchase the extended warranty as most of these robots don't last very long. Which is another reason I like this one. It's cheaper than the rest! If it breaks within the first three years, it should be covered and if it breaks after three years, well, at least I got a good three years out of it!
