Old Lady Review - Took a decade off my age...maybe?
RAMBLING OLD LADY STORY: (you inpatient youngsters can skip to the bottom for the review) - I had never tried false eyelashes until I was in my 50's. I was going to a conference and wanted to look fabulous. Needless to say, I had not perfected my skills between the day I bought the lashes and the conference a week later. The glue, the mess, the inability to see to put them on without a magnifying glass, but you can't put them on while wearing your readers. I threw them away after the conference. But for that brief moment, it did look like I had lashes. I would project I looked at least 5 years younger. - Then, the first magnifying eyelashes came out. They tempted me, whispering "we will make you younger, all your old lady friends will be jealous, asking if you had "work" done. But you won't tell them your secret so you'll be the best-looking old lady in your old lady group. I bought them, I rushed home, I even read the instructions. But when I went to line up the two lashes and they clamped together...failure! The original magnetic eyelashes where you have to match up two sets would never stick together close enough to my eyes. Another $20 bucks in the crapper. - For my daughter's wedding we went to a salon and they put falsies on. They were supposed to make me look younger. To make my lashes look amazing for the photographs. Nope! I looked like a fading movie star trying to relive her glory days and failing miserably. The lashes didn't even curve up, they just stuck out from my face and made me look older. Ugh. - Never again, I thought. I'll just wear my glasses all the time and no one will be able to see my tired, droopy eyes. - Then along came the magnetic eyeliner to go with one set of magnetic lashes. I put it off and put it off, they were so expensive! By now, I barely have any lashes left so I didn't think they would even look good even if they worked. But over the months, other brands came out that were more reasonable and bam! I had to try them! REVIEW: - These lashes should be very easy to put on...the eyeliner was my challenge. I don't normally wear liquid eyeliner, and the pencil kind is very forgiving and easy to wipe off. Liquid eyeliner always dries a little stiff and head to remove, but this eyeliner is like a permanent marker. So make sure to practice your eyeliner skills before you start! You can see in the pictures that on one eye I didn't go all the way into the inner corner and on the other eye I went too far to the outer corner. However, the liner is very smooth and flows well. The challenges were mostly my inexperience with liquid liner. - Remember to let the eyeliner dry. It takes forever, IMO. I am not a patient person, so I finally decided to eat breakfast while it dried so I wouldn't be so impatient. - If you mess up, you can't take the eyelash off and reposition, so do it correct the first time. My first eyeball pic shows what my liner looked like after I took off the eyelash because I thought it was too far towards the corner of my eye. That liner really sticks! - I put on a little mascara and curled my lashes first. Not sure if that part is necessary. I'm going to try without mascara next time, but I think I'll still give my natural lashes a little curl so they go in the same direction as the magnetic eyelashes. - The lashes come off pretty easily when you are ready to remove them. I had to be gentle to make sure I didn't pull out any of my natural lashes (I don't have many left and need to save them as long as possible!) I was able to pop them back into their box for storage. I need to clean them first, which is a pain because the liner is so difficult to remove without using a cleaner....water is not enough. Bonus though, that means these are probably going to be waterproof in case anyone wants to wear them to the gym. - While these seem to be the correct length for my eyes, I decided to trim one pair down to 4 magnets to see how it looks. I trimmed the outer, longer side. I posted a pic so you can see the difference when trimming. OVERALL: I'm going to give these eyelashes 5 stars because the liner is great and the lash length is great. Any problems I've had so far are based on the lack of skill on my part with using liquid liner and fake eyelashes. I think I prefer the trimmed down version, after trying both. I would have liked a bit more liner, but some eyelashes only come with one tube and this set comes with 2 tubes. I'm not sure how long regular liquid eyeliner lasts, but this liner seems to be the same consistency. I can foresee running out very quickly if I were to wear these every day...which I might because I barely notice they are on they are so comfortable but when I look in the mirror I really like having thick lashes like in my youth! I hope someone comes out with different color eyeliner and maybe some browner lashes that match the colors of natural lashes more.
