If you love deep, profound drama, this is a good one! I was surfing the new releases (sorted by date) and stumbled across this movie with Eddie Murphy. I hadn't seen any previews, nor heard anything about the movie (similar to the Sea of Trees with Matthew McConaughey). I watched the trailer and pulled the trigger on this one and I was incredibly happy that I did. The movie was amazing. Is it a tear jerker? Yes, not as loose control of your emotions as My Life (Michael Keaton/Nicole Kidman) was, but very emotional. It was a deep, touching movie that explored human emotion without getting all the Hollywood packaging BS. It focused on the dynamic range of the character and was in my opinion a strong showcase of Eddie's range as an actor. Each facial expression was a deep and compelling performance and filled the movie better than some of the filler lines that are standard fare. The depth of the character kept feeding through the movie and was very moving. My wife and I loved the evolution of time through the movie and the music was superb. The movie focused on the little details and really nailed the pieces. It also was very engaging throughout the movie and rewarded the viewer for paying attention... Apple Jacks :). Britt and Natascha also nailed their performances. I really enjoyed Britt's narrating thru the movie, which added a very personal perspective. And Natascha's screen presence was immaculate. I still remember being in elementary school when Eddie Murphy Raw came out and one of my friends had a bootleg from a friend of a friend. I thought it was one of the funniest things that I had ever heard. There have been decades of some funny, some not so funny movies that he was part of, but I think he may have found his calling if he keeps going with these type of roles. Eddie is very profound and his talents are lost in some of the more superficial types of comedy.
