This installed into my Iphone 5 with no problem, it works perfectly. Turns out I probably didn't need it, read below for details
First off, if you suspect your charging port is going bad, it probably isn't. Grab a flashlight and a safety pin/needle, shine the light into the charging port and you will probably see a bunch of lint tightly jammed into the back of the port that is preventing the cable from fully inserting. In my case, it was about 3 years worth of lint that got compressed tighter into the port every time i plugged in my charge cable. Just turn your phone off (I don't know if crossing the pins will hurt your phone, but it's better to be safe than sorry.) and use the needle to gently fish the lint out of the port and your phone will probably work as good as new. I looked into my old port before replacing it and it looked clear, but I didn't shine a light into it. I spent about an hour swapping out the parts, sweating bullets the entire time, when I could have just cleaned the port out in 10 seconds. Literally 2 minutes after completing the repair, I looked into the old port again, saw the lint, and felt really dumb. If your port really is faulty, the repair is certainly doable, but you need to be VERY careful and methodical. I consider myself very technically savvy and I got kind of nervous working on this when I realized how easy it would be to screw up. There are something like 12 tiny screws you will have to remove in total. 5 of them are seriously almost the size of a grain of sand. When you remove the screws. make sure you place them somewhere they won't disappear and in a way that will help you to remember where they came from when you are reassembling the phone. There are a few paper-thin ribbon cables you will have to fiddle with too, generally glued down, so it is extra scary trying to detach them without tearing them. Messing with these cables was probably the most stressful part of the whole repair. You will have to remove your speakerphone speaker to remove the charge port, it's easy to pull out, but there is a tiny yet EXTREMELY important copper piece that the bottom-right internal screw threads though, this tiny piece connects the speaker to a cable and I don't believe the speaker will work without it. So when you remove that screw, pay attention. When you pull the speaker out, PAY ATTENTION, IT WILL FALL OFF. I'm just mentioning this because none of the tutorials I watched even mentioned this part and I've seen a lot of comments of people complaining about their speaker not working after repairing their charge port. I would have been one of those people except I luckily saw the piece lying next to my phone as I was about to close it back up. I recognized what it was from my electrical experience and had to figure out where it was supposed to live inside of the phone. I wish I had taken a picture, but my camera phone wasn't exactly in working order at the time. In that same vein, there is a tiny rubber "boot" that your microphone (a tiny dangly thing between the charge port and headphone port) is nestled inside of. You need to remove the boot from the old mic and put it on the new one. This replacement charge port does not include that rubber piece. The rubber boot has a small hole that mounts the mic to a tiny post on the bottom of the phone to hold it in place, and I imagine that your voice would probably sound weird and tinny/distorted without the boot that completely encases the mic, so don't forget about it. I would recommend that you do all of your work in a baking dish or something that will keep everything contained because if you drop one of these screws or internal pieces, it's going to be gone forever. Control your breathing while working on your phone, one mis-aimed exhale will send those tiny screws flying. I used "Olympia Tools 88-670 iWork 15-Piece Smart Phone Repair Tool Kit" to do my repair, I can't vouch for this toolkit enough, it has everything you need to complete this repair, a pair of fine tweezers would have been nice too, but the magnetized screwdriver is a real lifesaver. The toolkit is of extremely high quality, it has replaced my electronics screwdriver set. I really think that I would have screwed myself had I gone into this any less prepared. Good luck, if you have any questions, please ask and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. I hope this helps and gives you a better idea of what to expect when you open up this can of worms. Also, this port had free non-prime shipping, I was expecting to wait a week or two for it to come in, but it showed up in 2 days.
