I planted lettuce seed using Rapid Rooter and rockwool. The Rapid Rooter far outperforms rockwool (see photo). I turn the Rapid Rooter plugs upside down and slice (with a very sharp kitchen knife) a 1/4 inch cut in the plug. Then pull the cut open a bit and drop a seed into the cut. When the lettuce seedling is large enough I move the plug from my indoor grow closet to my greenhouse NFT hydroponic system. By turning the plug upside down it becomes stable enough to stand on its own in the hydroponic system. No net pot necessary.
