I switched from a 60 gallon natural gas water heater to the Rheem RTE 9 electric tankless water heater. I was worried about it's ability to provide hot water for a family of 5 but so far I am very happy. The response time for hot water is great, much faster than it was with the gas water heater. With the gas water heater it would take at least 30 seconds for the water to start feeling warm. With the Rheem water heater you start feeling the water warming up in 10 to 15 seconds and it's hot within 20 seconds. As for showers and baths we have had no problems so far. Part of this might be due to our use of water saving shower heads and faucets the allow between 1 gallon per minute (gpm) to 1.5 gpm. The Rheem water heater is rated at 3 gpm and it's rare that someone is using more than one sink and the shower at the same time. For less than $200.00, you really can't go wrong with the Rheem electric water heater. It probably took me as long to install the Rheem water heater as it took me to install a conventional gas or electric tank water heater. Now I have to wait and see what the difference will be from the gas bill to the electric bill but I'm guessing it will be less just for the fact that the Rheem water heater only runs when there is a demand for hot water while the gas tank heater was constantly keeping 60 gallons of water hot 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
