Homeschooling parents, buy this!!!!!
I went very in-depth with this review in case any other homeschooling parents happen to see this. I of course am hopeful it helps anyone that may need help deciding if this is right for them, but as a mother that homeschools I know how incredibly valuable this product is and will continue to be. If you want a quick soundbyte letting you know my thoughts, they are the this product is amazing and worth every penny! If you want more info, keep reading.
First I will say that I personally own a canon pixma TS3122 printer. The cartridges I refilled using this kit where the CL-244 color ink cartridge and the PG-245 black ink cartridge.
On their own I paid $18 for the black and $22 for the color. These last me almost a month each, if I print sparsely. Which after my first month of homeschooling I realised I would have to do in order to not spend $80 a month on printer ink. The last time I went to buy ink I was searching for a lower cost alternative. I came across this product and was intrigued by the thought of saving some money. At $18 I figured it was worth a shot. If it didn't work it wouldn't be a big loss.
I am so far beyond glad I made that choice!!! By my calculations this kit will save me between $500-$1500!!!!!! That is an insane savings!
I am going to tell you now about how the kit worked for me and explain the plethora of pictures I attached to my review.
First off I found a video on youtube explaining how to use these types of kits and watched it to familiarize myself with refilling ink cartridges.
Once I did that I started the process. Hand drilling the refill holes takes about 3-5 minutes per hole and does wear your hand out a bit, but you only have to do it once so not a big deal. I attached a picture of one hole not fully drilled so you could see that you have to go in pretty deep before you will reach the ink cavity.
I put 7ml's of black ink into my cartridge since they are supposed to hold 8, I figured go one shy to make sure I didn't have leakage. I put 3mls in my red cavity, and 4 mls in both my blue and yellow since they were more dry than the red. To determine which ink was in which spot I simply inserved a tooth pick in each one to get the color.
I was careful and very slowly depressed the plunger each time I was refilling so could make sure I didn't overfill. I'm not sure what the white stickers that came with the kit are for, I used them to identify each color port for future refills.
After I was completely done I put the stickers back on and threw them in the printer. I attached before and after pictures of papers I was trying to print. You can see for yourself how much of a difference it made to have ink again.
I highly recommend this kit to anyone that prints often, save yourself a ton of cash and refill your cartridges!!!!
Update : 2 months later and I haven't even begun to make a dent in my ink supplies. I've refilled my cartridges at least 5 times and you can barely tell in my ink levels. I did find I had to go into my setting on my printer and force stop the change cartridge notification. With my cannon pixma it will not allow the printer to print when it thinks the cartridge is empty, so even though I had just filled them it thought it was empty because the original cartridge had been emptied before I refilled it at home. Nothing a 5 second setting adjustment couldn't fix, just giving everyone a heads up you may have to do the same. These companies don't want us doing the cheaper option of re-filling over buying brand new expensive cartridges. So they put in a setting that won't allow you to print with a refilled until you change the setting.
Update 2: 7 months later and I still love this kit. I have used enough ink at this point that you can see just under an inch of empty space in each bottle. That blows my mind. I have printend out a plethora of homeschool work, birthat banners and literally 2 full books. Still going strong. I am still using the original cartridges with no issue. I have no reason to continue updating this other than the outstanding amount of money this kit has saved me and the hopes that it can help other people like me.
