After buying a new house and a king bed to fit it, our budget was pretty strapped but we needed a headboard to make the bedroom look more finished, plus since the bigger bed and room layout don't allow for nightstands we needed a place to put phones, books, etc. This headboard looked like just the ticket - reasonable price ($139 with Amazon Prime shipping). A few cubbyholes for electronics, and a compact size overall. The headboard ships in a flat pack of course, nothing unusual in the assembly (cam-locks and plastic dowels mostly). The materials are basic - pressboard with a vinyl woodgrain "veneer", about what you'd expect for the price. But it's sturdy, and the assembly is straightforward and pretty quick. I modified mine by drilling a couple 4" holes on the sides with a hole saw, for some vents (our bed sits up against the only heater register in the room). I also cut in an electrical box on the center shelf, where I can plug in a 4-USB wall charger and a laptop charger. I'd have liked to see some pass-throughs in the shelves or knock-out holes pre-punched on the backer board for cords, I have to think that running a phone charger or reading lamp is not exactly groundbreaking activity with a storage headboard. Not a big deal for someone who has a good array of tools and experience but certainly could be simpler to accomplish with a little design forethought.
