Super Comfy Shoes
This represents my fifth or sixth pair of Merrell Moabs over the years. I've had both the waterproof and ventilated varieties, and I often have one pair of each. This, however, is my first pair of Moab 2s. Clearly, I like the Moab line, and one of the main reasons is the straight-out-of-the-box comfort for which Merrell is renown. There is no break-in period with these shoes. You can put them on and know your feet will be happy. There are a few things I would recommend however, based upon prior Moab usage. One of my other reasons for buying these shoes again and again is that they last a long time. The soles are rugged. They do not wear out whether I am hiking mountains or just doing the daily urban hiking of a walking city like New York. Always unlace the shoes to take them off. If you pull your foot out them all the time without unlacing, the cloth at the back of your foot by your achilles tendon will wear away and the padding behind it will be visible and become loose. Also, there is something about the laces that makes them susceptible to becoming untied. If I don't double knot them, they come untied more so than any shoe I have ever owned. Maybe the laces are coated to repel water or something, but I definitely recommend double knots. Lastly, if you want to keep your waterproof Moabs waterproof, I recommend using a waterproofing product at least one a year. That is a standard recommendation given by manufacturers for most waterproof gear, but I've found that my feet stay dry in these shoes if I re-waterproof them annually. Even with the preceding recommendations, I wholly recommend Merrell's Moab line. If the Moab 2 is as nice a shoe as its predecessors, I will be enjoying them for a long time.
