Very well done pilot (possible spoilers)
I was very impressed with this pilot. The acting was good, the sets were good, the costumes and props were appropriate. The setting and mood were top notch. Before the pilot was done I had a feel for an American culture that was strongly repressed but stubbornly hanging on. Unfortunately there was a heavy dependence on dark and shadowy sets during dramatic scenes.
After a few weak appearances by "secret police" (no one expects the Spanish Inquisition!) I was worried that the writers had shied away from the brutality of Nazi/Japanese rule. That was until an Audubon Patrolman casually noted that some ash fall was from the local hospital where the handicapped and terminally ill were being incinerated. I look forward to seeing how far they're willing to go down that dark road.
None of the characters were particularly complex, and some were borderline cliche, but most had room for development.
I have high hopes for this show. Science fiction is too often overlooked and this pilot has serious potential.
