Many virtues; my favorite is help with thermogenesis
Pro: -- This brand is not refined; instead a cold expeller process is used to eliminate the fatty acids that are solid at room temperature and retain those that are liquid at room temperature -- being a liquid-at-room-temperature coconut oil, it has 4 times more of the healthy Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) than typical coconut oil -- Medical journal publications have shown that MCT oil promotes diet-induced-thermogenesis (i.e., increase in body temperature as a result of a food eaten) which helps persons with hypothyroidism have a bit more effective thyroid and a nudge towards a more normal body temperature rather than a body temperature in the 96-97 F degree range. This increase in metabolism not only helps hypothyroid people feel less cold, but also ones hair, nails and skin become less dry/brittle. In my case, I am disappointed in how little my Levothyroxine prescription has helped in this regard, and so I have looked for some healthy foods like this one that can help boost my not-so-well thyroid and my basal metabolism. -- The container/bottle has no BPA (also important to avoid regarding the thyroid), and the distilling process used no Hexane or other solvent -- The coconut oil has a very neutral flavor, and does not give a coconut taste to foods -- This oil can be used in cooking up to 350 degrees F -- is a product of the Philippines which I personally prefer to food product from China -- Some people enjoy starting their day with a tablespoon of this type of coconut oil in their otherwise black coffee (referred to as Bullet Proof Coffee (BPC)), and some consume BPC as their only breakfast in order to get the benefits of intermittent fasting (going approximately 14-16 hours between meals [e.g., not eating after an evening meal until lunch the next day], and not counting Bullet Proof Coffee in the morning as a meal since it is metabolized somewhat differently) (for more info see blogs by Chris Kresser, Mark Sisson, and Dave Asprey,) Con: -- I know of none
