Dirt Devil Platinum Force Side-by-Side comparison with Hoover All Terrain Model F7452900
I just purchased the Dirt Devil Platinum force, and my friend next door brought over her Hoover F7452900 Steamvac All-Terrain Floor Cleaner, and we went head to head on my carpet. This is what we found: First, they clean the same. In other words - from a cleanliness perspective you can't tell which area of the carpet was done by the Dirt Devil and which was done by the Hoover. Second, on short pile area rugs the Hoover went behind the Dirt Devil, and picked up a very little extra water. Third, we took both carpet cleaners on a super plush carpet - the kind you sink into. The Hoover picked up a significant amount of water more than the Dirt Devil. We left a small patch to dry on its own, but most of the rug we chose to go over the area with the Hoover to pick up excess water. On the small patch it took the Hoover section 5 hours to dry and the Dirt Devil section 10 hours to dry. Fourth, on the super plush carpet - the dirt devil caused the carpet to pill and the Hoover didn't - or it picked it up. I am not sure what that means. It is merely an observation. Fifth, I spoke with 2 repair/sales shops. They sell both the Hoover and the Dirt Devil. They both said that the Dirt Devil is far more reliable mechanically and if/when it breaks down it is cheaper and easier to fix. Last, the Dirt Devil after you clean looks leaves a pattern on your carpet like truck tires have been run over your carpet verses the Hoover leaves a flat track. Probably not a big deal, just another observation. Both machines were equally easy to push.
