Believe me; this one works!
I love my Equadose v. 2 pill splitter!
Like so many others, I've looked at all shapes & sizes of splitters. I've wasted money on the simplest kinds (Apex) and a different sort of design (ProRxDisc Pill Cutter) so I felt like I was taking a chance again with Equadose's unique design.
I have a chalky, uncoated, non-scored tablet that has been difficult to cut evenly and left a lot of powder most of the time.
When my latest experiment failed that could only be purchased directly from the seller, I decided to search Amazon again in case I missed something. To my great delight, I found the new Equadose design, version 2, and it is perfect!
In my first picture, I'm trying to demonstrate how the supposedly "dangerous, exposed blade" in the top is no danger at all. I gave it a good go of trying to injure my finger and thumb on it in order to accurately assess the concerns of reviewers who were upset about it. The blade presented no danger to me at all.
In my opinion, it isn't sharp, can't slice or cut my fingers, but it is beveled and able to supply the force needed against the hidden blade in the bottom encasement to cleanly slice my tablets.
In the background of my 2nd picture, I tried to catch the included instructions, which are very easy to understand and encourage you to practice using the centering mechanism (blue part pulled away from the base) before slicing your pills to familiarize yourself with the motion. Then it's effortless.
Here's how it works: after removing the lid, pull back the centering mechanism from the base; it slides back easily. Place the tablet between the big curve of the centering mechanism and the two, small centering pieces above it. As the centering mechanism is slowly pushed back toward the base, the pill lines up with its center over the hidden blade in the base. Put the lid back on and press it down toward the base. Presto, you have 2 cleanly sliced halves of your tablet.
Equadose v. 2 really works beautifully and is the result of the owners actually paying attention to customer feedback and creating this new elegant design.
If you've had headaches over subpar pill splitters, my advice is to take the chance like I did, and buy it.
