My first go at a GPS device and this one is mostly very helpful.
Let's get this out of the way right now. Would I buy another one? The answer is I have already done so to give as a gift.
While the GPS is not perfect, my three months of use have demonstrated it's many advantages ease the sometimes recalcitrant nature of the beast. There are a few things that are important to know.
1. The map download takes about four hours.
2. Voice recognition requires speaking S-L-O-W-L-Y.
3. The system sometimes fails to recognize destination information input manually (typed) but will find same using vocie commands.
4. It is frequently necessary to specify a city before an address is located.
Things I really like:
* Clear guidance in advance about whether my next turn will be either left or right
* Continuous flow of the cross streets coming up
* Very accurate destination ETA
* Tripadvisor ratings for many restaurants and attractions
* Digital speed readout
* Very clear spoken directions
* The display darkens after sundown
* Points of interest is a great feature in a previously unexplored area
* Informs driver when GPS signal is lost
* Pings a change of status like the speed limit dropped
* Quick and accurate Garmin support
Things I don't like
* Sometimes difficult to get destination entered
* Have had it give inaccurate directions
