Perfect as a stand alone travel potty
We have both this and the Potette Plus (Kalencom 2-in-1 Potette Plus Red). I know that both are popular options in the travel/portable potty category and I like both. But I do prefer one to the other in certain situations, which I will explain shortly.
Here are the comparisons:
Size: At first sight, the OXO Tot looks much bigger. But in reality, it's just that the ring is wider and deeper--the exterior size isn't that significantly bigger. Both fit into a regular medium wet bag (shown in the photos are wet bags made by Planet Wise and Thirsties) and medium-large diaper bags (in the photos are Jujube Be Right Back and Le Sportsac Ryan Bag). However, in a very packed bag, even an inch of size can make a big difference. So if you want the potty to be as compact as possible, the Potette Plus would be a better choice. If you are carrying the potty in a very large diaper bag or a separate bag, the difference in size is not significant.
Ease of use as a stand alone potty: The OXO Tot can be opened in just one second. It's amazing! Once you hear the click sound, the potty is stable and ready to use. To fold the legs back, you will have to press the two grey buttons, but that's still quite simple to do. The Potette also takes very short time to open, however, you will have to push the legs in for them to stay in place. To fold the legs back is the hardest part. You'll have to pull both legs out and it requires quite some effort. If I am to quantify the efforts required, I would say the OXO Tot is 1 to open, 2 to fold; the Potette is 3 to open, 10 to fold.
Ease of use as a toilet cover: The Potette is slightly better, but the OXO Tot comes close. I just said that the Potette is difficult to fold when the legs are locked. But when the potty is used as a toilet cover, the legs are not locked and very easy to open and fold. Both potties stay stable enough on the toilet if used correctly.
So my conclusion is, both are good options for portable/travel potties. The Potette is smaller, and easy to use as a toilet cover. The OXO Tot is also not too hard to carry, and is a reliable, easy to use stand alone potty (good for car use, camping, etc.).
For home use though, both are too small and not the most comfortable. I would recommend BABYBJORN Potty Chair, Gray (as a potty chair) and Babyjorn Toilet Trainer, White/Black (as a toilet cover). Both are really excellent products.
I had so many questions before the purchases too so I hope you find the review helpful!
