This is the Review you need to read.
So you've got fruit flies. Its the summer months, and those things are floating around - bouncing off your face and landing in your cup of coffee. Its annoying, but not so much to call an exterminator or anything.
So you go onto Amazon, type in 'fruit fly trap' and find this. Chances are you've already seen and/or tried the apple cider vinegar in a bowl trick, but with less than satisfying results. So you're here, looking for something that might just give you the edge.
The reason why so many fruit fly killer products on Amazon have poor reviews is that no one singular thing is going to work for everyone. There's just too many factors surrounding each person's home to decide if these little things actually work. As well there is also the false promises that any of these traps will get rid of 100% of fruit flies. (none will, but you can decrease their count to be non-noticeable).
I do recommend these little plastic traps for two reasons; they aren't as noticeable or aggressively redneck looking as a bowl of apple cider vinegar sitting out on the table - and they are effective traps, provided you keep their working conditions ideal.
This is how you save yourself from being let down with these traps. Once you've used up their 'bait tubes', don't buy any more. You know, I know, we all know they are just apple cider vinegar (That's why this review is only 4 stars). Go out and buy a bottle of ACV and neutral soap and you'll have a yearly supply. I do recommended organic apple cider vinegar, and while I cant prove it works better than the regular stuff for everyone, I have had slightly better success with the organic ones. Next, keeping fruit flies at bay is a lifestyle change. I'm sorry to everyone who thinks there is a silver bullet here, I was once as bright eyed as you too, but they are simply too pervasive to reduce and eradicate without some kind of habitual practices put into place. Namely- taking the trash out more frequently, having a trash bin with a lid, keeping dishes free from the sink, and dry and put up clean dishes quickly. Keeping a rubber sink stopper works in my case, which I just remove when doing dishes or otherwise using the sink. Keeping your kitchen in general tidiness, and keeping fruits and veggies in the fridge. Yes I know a good fruit bowl looks great, but just buy the plastic ones, the only person who will actually notice is your mother in law, and who cares what she thinks honestly.
For the first week or so, I kept these traps out in the wide open to give them as much range as possible. After their numbers were reduced to an acceptable level, I placed them in more inconspicuous places, so it didn't look like I had little old school police car lights sitting around my house everywhere.
Good luck, whoever you are with the fruit fly problem. These won't save you entirely, but they are a good start.
