It seems that everytime I move into a new dwelling one of the first repairs I have to make is replacing the garbage disposal. A fun little chore made even more challenging in that the repair has to be done within the confines of the cabinet under the sink. InSinkErator has always been the brand that needed replacing and was always the brand it was replaced with. My thinking was that the old pipes and hoses would easily attach to the new disposal. And that was always the case. And I was used to the fact that operating the disposals made a sound akin to a cement mixer rotating a drum filled with engine parts and gravel. Nature of the beast sort of thing. But this time I opted for a Moen model. I have always replaced worn faucets with Moen products because I liked the design and high quality. To my surprise installation was a breeze. All the old pipes and hoses mated perfectly to the new disposal. Start to finish with a coffee break half way through consume less than an hour. Not bad for a retired old geezer, eh? But when I finally tested the Moen I had a momentary panic. I thought at first that the motor wasn't turning! Visual inspection confirmed that the machine was in motion and a further test with some leftover vegetables proved that the disposal was doing its job. Just very quietly. Moen has come through again.
